ALA/NMRT Presidents program

I won't be able to attend ALA this year but for those who are and for those interested in learning more about international librarianship, the NMRT President's program might be worth a looksee:

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a librarian in another country? Not sure where to start looking or concerned about the logistics?

Attend the NMRT President's Program session, "International Insights for New Librarians" to learn about professional organizations that can help you and get your questions answered by international librarians.

The NMRT President's Program and Membership Meeting will be held in the El Capitan room of the Hilton Anaheim on Saturday June 28th from 1:30-3:30.

Speakers from the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) will be discussing the library profession in Australia and the New Librarians'

Symposium in the international context. A member of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) will describe initiatives and programs of library associations around the globe, as well as review survey results from the New Librarians International Survey conducted in 2006.

The panelists will also talk about their personal experiences as international librarians and answer any questions you have about becoming an international librarian.

"International Insights for New Librarians" will run from 1:30 to 2:30 with the NMRT Membership Meeting immediately following from 2:30-3:30 in the same room.

About the speakers:

Andrew Spencer has worked at Macquarie University Library in Sydney, Australia since March 2003, and was one of the original members of the organizing committee for the 2006 Australian Library and Information Association's New Librarians' Symposium.

Fiona Bradley is Information Services Librarian at the University of Technology, Sydney, and is currently also serving as Web Manager at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions in The Hague, The Netherlands. She was the Programme Coordinator for the 2006 New Librarians' Symposium.

Alyson Dalby is a Knowledge and Research Specialist with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. She was a Convener of the ALIA New Librarians' Symposium 2006 and currently sits on the ALIA New Generation Advisory Committee. In 2006 she was named as the Special Libraries Association Australian and New Zealand Information Professional of the Year

Loida Garcia-Febo manages Special Services for the Queens Library and formerly managed Spanish Language Collections/Cultural Arts for the Queens Library's New Americans Program. Loida is a member of the Executive Board of REFORMA. She is also an active member of ACURIL. In 2004 she co-established the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions' New Professionals Discussion Group.
