I thought I would list a few of the resources I've been using recently to locate jobs. In the past I've usually avoided any job websites that weren't specifically library related, sticking mainly with Lisjobs.com or ALAjobs. However, lately I've been pretty focused on finding a position in a specific area (my husbands from central New York). I'm finding it to be just as fast, if not faster to use sites like CareerBuilder and Simply Hired. You get a lot of overlap but sometimes you'll come across a job that wasn't listed anywhere else. CareerBuilder makes things easy since it allows you to upload your resume to their site and even write a separate cover letter for each job, although most of the time the library wants you to either go through their website or mail in your application. Simply Hired allows you to connect directly with your LinkedIn account and provides you with email alerts. I also joined the Libjobs listserve which sends job listings through email too.

Then there's LibGig. It's kind of a new from what I gather. LibGig is "a new professional networking website dedicated to bringing together everyone who accesses, organizes, creates, manages, produces or distributes information for a living". They have a helpful Q&A page, blogs, forums, ask a recruiter (like that, nice little twist on "ask a librarian"), and a nice little featured job column.

I also found this little gem. I don't actually read the Young Librarian blog (guess I do now...found them on accident through someones twitter). If there is one thing that I have a lot of trouble with it's writing a cover letter. There are all kinds of examples on the web and in books but it's nice to be able to look at some that were written specifically for library positions.
