Raya Kuzyk

While trying to order new reference books today I found myself in momentary paralysis. I always tend to feel this way at the beginning of a new budget year. "Ok, so I have like 2 grand here, what the hell am I going to spend this on?". I have a special folder for times like these. It's called My Collection Development folder. I know. Went out on a limb to be creative with that one. didn't I. Anyway, I fill this folder with random articles and other notes I've made about potential stuff that might be suitable for our collection. Today I pulled out Kuzyk's Reference into the Future which provided the necessary guidance to zap me out of my paralysis and get on with my self designated quota of ordering. After finishing, I decided that Raya Kuzyk's name is just way too darn cool sounding not to google so I did and discovered that she isn't just the Associate editor for LJ but also freelances, or did freelance, writing for several publications including The New York Times. This article (to view you'll need a membership login) from 2005 had me giggling at the desk, although it's kinda painful to read too. She apprently broke-up with her boyfriend via PowerPoint. Perhaps not the most sensitive method but I guess she realized she was better off anyway since the dude was already engaged. After reading this article I wondered if I would ever be able to read any of Kuzyk's library related articles in the same way. I probably won't. I'll probably remember that I'm reading an article written not just by an expert in a specialized field, but a person who lives life and writes about it with talent.

I'm tempted to google everyone who writes LJ articles now.
